April 2008

Hi folks –

I will be sending out a more official evite for this event, but save Saturday, May 17th for dinner and festivities at my house to in honor of Anne, Einar and Aurora, who will be visiting from Portland.   Festivities to include volleyball, swimming (if warm enough), general “ooohing and aaahing” over the babies, and the correct balance of drinking to ensure that we will not be queasy in Sunday morning practice.   I live about 10 minutes away from YIY, right off the Magdalena exit at 280.   Kids welcome.

If you’re interested in a unique cultural / musical experience please
consider attending the following concert at Stanford this coming Sunday
evening. I’m performing in a small ensemble that will accompany two
wold-famous Chinese opera stars in a unique centuries-old story of a
woman who falls in love with a prince and (in order to save his life)
attempts to steal the brain of her dead Taoist-monk husband. (It’s hard
to explain in so many words.)

It’s a very beautiful piece and features four Chinese instruments
including a mouth organ, pipa, Chinese flute and koto-like instrument
and multiple costume changes. The male lead is rehearsing currently
with the New York Metropolitan Opera.
