Baby Arrival: This time it’s a little girl!
From Anne and Einar Finstad:
Hi there,
I know some of you have had other announcements, so forgive if its a repeat. Also I tried to text many of you from the hospital in the cases I had your mobile numbers, but many of them bounced, so you may have been waiting very patiently.

In any case this is Aurora Lane Finstad, she joined us at 3:43 am on her due date, 1/28/08. We have many more pics but this is the one I didn’t have to download that I like… It shows her face and that she has Einar’s long fingers (and arms and legs. We will have more pics soon.
So stats: 7 lbs, 12 oz, 21 inches (not 22 as was reported earlier). 29 hours of labor, we had an epideral but no C section. She was posterior, and she managed to push herself out of the womb between pushes, crying immediately upon entry, and she surprised us all by being an Aurora Lane… She’s very sweet and mellow, and is very into eating and sleeping… and eating and sleeping. We really appreciate everyones good thoughts as we’ve been through this entire process, its been very emotional for us, and we just are in heaven right now with her. Can’t wait for those of you who can to meet her.
All the best,
Anne and Einar

Joseph Dunham on Saturday
Hi there, I just wanted to give a quick shout out for Joseph’s workshop this weekend. I have known Joseph for years, and he’s the sort of person who’s very quietly part of the glue of the international ashtangi community. When there are arguments among certain famous certified teachers about the light switch in the room in the shala in Mysore where you go to finish, guess who it is that has lunch with the folk, and gets them talking again? I won’t say names, but this is the sort of person he is, both on and off the mat, and I have great respect for him. There’s a reason that the family trusted him to arrange the tours for 10 years. And I will never forget Guruji wandering to the door towards practice end, asking people where Joseph had gone. Guruji absolutely loves him.
So he’s a delightful person, and I think you will really love him, and I highly encourage attending his workshop. He has a great sense of humor, and a great and deep understanding of this practice, and a great sense of perspective on it all….
He’s also willing to come to Portland in the dead of Winter (its 30 degrees right now) to sub for me while I’m on maternity, when he could be in Mysore where its 88 degrees right now… I think that says a lot too.
So do go if you can, you will not regret it.
Portland is cold, no baby yet, but we grow closer by the minute.
Take care, be well, and best to you all, miss you much,
Anne from Portland

Lino Full Vinyasa Intermediate Series
Just to let you know we’ve slightly amended the Technique class offered by Lino this April, to incorporate Intermediate Series Full Vinyasa technique:
Technique & Adjustments
Continuing the theme of full vinyasa, Lino will introduce full vinyasa for the Intermediate (2nd) Series in this special workshop class. Students who are working on Intermediate Series may find this class particularly helpful for maintaining the proper vinyasa (breath-movement flow) in that portion of their practice. The second half of the class will be devoted to principles of hands-on adjustments. The Primary Series Full Vinyasa class (above) is recommended to familiarize students with the techniques to be discussed in this class. Recommended for teachers and serious students.

Our dear friend Joseph Dunham is giving a workshop this Saturday at YiY. I hope that everyone will enjoy this chance to spend time with a longtime Ashtanga student and resident of Mysore.
Bring along your questions and let’s all enjoy Joseph’s tales of yoga and Guruji.

Mr. Joseph’s tour will continue down to Monterey for a few days of Mysore classes and then up to Portland where he will fill in for Anne as she prepares for her big day…
