Theatre Recommendation and Invitation
Ken and I would like to recommend “Emma,” the new musical from TheatreWorks. This is a World Premiere. We have watched this play through its development, and are very excited about it. It is playing at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts (500 Castro St) through September 22. See http://www.theatreworks.org/07_08_Emma.htm for details.
“Emma” is based on the novel by Jane Austen. The play holds true to the story (although some details are omitted, of course). The script, music and lyrics are by Paul Gordon (Tony nomination for “Jane Eyre”). Lianne Marie Dobbs stars as Emma, as she did in the developmental readings and workshop productions, which were excellent. She has a fabulous voice, and Paul Gordon’s music is wonderful. The production has gotten very good reviews.
We have arranged for group ticket prices for the matinee on Sunday September 16 at 2 PM. For Sunday matinees normal pricing is $61 for individual tickets, while group prices are $45 per ticket. If you are a student (with valid ID, unless you are in twelfth grade or below), your ticket is $30 for Sunday. This play is appropriate for children who would appreciate love stories.
Please reserve your tickets with us, as we are organizing this group sale. We will need to know if you are joining us by September 10, please. Of course, if you can’t make it that Sunday, the schedule of performances is at http://www.theatreworks.org/07_08_Emma.htm.
We can share a meal in Mountain View before (or after) the Sunday matinee, if you would like. Just let us know.
We are so happy to share this new production with you.

Hindi & Salsa music mix…video on YouTube
Hello Ashtangees!
Giju John, one of my best friends and an engineer at Intel recently had a worldwide relase of his first album. It is a rhythm filled album with a mix of Hindi pop (Bollywood style) and latin rhythms.
Originally from Kerala, Giju has been living in the bay area for 8 years. During this time, he began salsa dancing and is currently a member of my dance team. (Salsamania Dance Company.) Giju is our top dancer and has represented our team twice at the World Salsa Championships. Thanks to his hard work Salsamania is currently ranked third in the world.
Since the CD became available, I have been listening to it non-stop!
The album has 8 songs sung in Hindi, but peppered with world rhythms. The album includes: salsa, ChaChaCha, A Capella (this is one of my favorites), techno with an Arabic mix, Indian Rock and a duet with Sadhana Sargam.
The first of it’s kind, Giju has been touring India and Europe promoting the album. The title track: Rang Rangeeli is posted on YouTube and features many of my close friends and dance company members. Typical of Bollywod type music, the album tells a typical love story. Please take a moment to go out and take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDMH0fhC3bM
Feel free to forward the clip to any friends who might be interested.
If you are interested in the album, it is available on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Rang-Rangeeli-yeh-Duniya-Giju/dp/B000SKKD0Y/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-7226125-1445417?ie=UTF8&s =music&qid=1188416554&sr=8-1 .
Enjoy!

Mysore Calendar 2008 update
We will be taking photos on Thursday, August 30th. In order to not draw out the picture taking process over a week or two, we may be asking some of you to hold a pose a little longer so that we can get a shot we like.
Thanks, Dave (more…)

Ramaswami Workshop in SF
[from Tom Hunter of Marin]
Srivatsa Ramaswami (68) was a student of T Krishnamacharya for 30 years.
He is teaching a 1 day workshop at Yoga Tree on Saturday 1 September.
I’ve practiced with him — very interesting.
Workshop: Tenets of Vinyasa Yoga
Descripton: Vinyasa Krama was the core system taught by Pandit Sri T Krishnamacharya in his teachings of yogasanas. Srivatsa Ramaswami studied this system in considerable detail with the Guru during his 30 year study under the Master. Vinyasa is the art form of Yoga practice, with elaborate, aesthetic variations and movements in essential Yoga Postures. In this program the basic elements and parameters of classical Vinyasa Yoga will be considered in detail. We will practice Tadasana sequence with about 30 core vinyasas with synchronized Ujjayi breathing.
Teacher: Srivatsa Ramaswami
Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Date: Saturday 9/1/2007
