Sutra Discussion Group AND Chai class
So Wednesday evening August third, we are having a Sutra Discussion group AND a chai class. Ken and Elaine have agreed to host, please speak with Anne, Ken, or Elaine if you need directions. The chai class will start at six, the sutra discussion group will start at seven. You can bring dessert to share. And we should be working on sutras 20-25 of the second book of the yoga sutras.
Cheers,
Anne
I had the opportunity to take 2 classes at a new ashtanga studio in Geneva, Switzerland called Yoga-Asana.
The studio opened last October and it is the first in Geneva, a town of 400,000. I went to the Friday noon class with my aunt and cousin, neither of whom had doen yoga before. It is a small studio, so the 3 of us took up a whole half of a room. You could squeeze 8 students if you had to. The teacher Sophie was very good with the beginners.
The Saturday class was the only Mysore class of the week, taught by Gwendal. It reminded me of the situation at YiY when we were trying to start a Mysore program 3 years ago with a sole Friday morning class. The class was well attended, with 7 students turning up. It felt as if the room was packed and there was a good energy in the room.
Afterwards I went out for tea with Gwendal and the studio owner Eddie. They were very friendly and approachable. I recommended they stick to what they are doing and the program should grow naturally over the next few years. They are already looking for a new location as it’s too small. Watch this space!
Aloha from Sherry and Matt.
We are enjoying a rich “yoga retreat” on Kauai, along with surfing and golf (Matt), reading and communing (Sherry). Bhavani here at Yoga Hanalei is challenging us and definitely enriching our Ashtanga practice and understanding. We also have a wonderful Anusara style teacher, Tara Mala, which provides a nice diversity of practice. We are getting used to lots of sweating, I mean purification.
We want to encourage you to take advantage of Bhavani’s workshops at YiY in August. She will really challenge you in the physical postures, going deep into certain sequences and will feed your heart and mind all the while with yoga philosophy. It is a total Ashtanga Yoga experience.
We return mid-August and look forward to seeing all of you then. Happy summer.
Namaste, Sherry and Matt.
Please be advised that this coming Sunday I will have no assistant. If you are concerned to get adjustments, I highly recommend coming early. I am going to extend the class time an hour earlier, so class will be from 6:30 am to 9:30 am, instead of the usual 7:30-9:30 am.
See you all shortly,
Anne
